If you are likely to be sharing a camera between several users, it’s absolutely critical that you perform a factory reset to make sure any settings made by the previous operator are cleared before you begin filming. Otherwise you risk filming with the incorrect settings.
Firstly switch on camera
1. Press menu button
2. Using SEL/SET dial, press and scroll down to ‘Others’ Menu
3. Select > All Reset>Execute (All Reset Executing…% will display
Once complete ‘All reset done’ will display which means thatThe factory set up has now been restored and the camera will be set to record 1920×1080 50i at HQ mode which is 35mb/s
Now proceed to check the following and prepare your media for filming:
1. Select return and Scroll down to Country mode and check that PAL Area has been selected
2. Check that Video Format is set to HQ 1080/50i
3. Select Clip>Title Prefix and set Clip name i.e. Prog Number or whatever naming convention is on the call sheet (This will relate to the Channel’s File Naming Protocol)
4. Select Number reset if you wish to start the clips recording at ie 0001
5. Select return>Format Media>Select>Media(A)>Execute
6. Format Media (A) Now? If you have backed up your rushes and you are absolutely confident that they are on a Raid 1 drive (written twice) or you have the clips in 2 separate places then >select >Execute
7. Format media (A) Executing …% will display> Done
8. Repeat for Media (B).
There are of course other menu settings to customize and this will be largely down to user preference. But the most important element is the recording format and bit rate.
Finally…
Don’t forget to set the time and date after you’ve done a factory reset.
Remember:
With no other metadata other than time and date on a clip you will be able to locate shots using these fields alone.
