I’ve been lucky to get a pre-launch copy of clip Browser version 2.5 to evaluate.
So what’s new?
You can now Browse XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX within clip browser so no need to use PDZ software and clip browser separately. Everything is now neatly packaged within one programme.
What does this mean?
Well you can shoot 2 camera with let’s say a PDW-700 and a PMW-EX1(EX3) and view the footage in Clip Browser. This has been possible for MAC users using XDCAM Transfer but not this is possible for PC Users - But with some additional functionality that you will find useful.
So you can import both XDCAM HD(MXF) clips, as well as EX (MP4) clips
Here’s the best bit
It is now possible to fully convert the XDCAM EX footage to XDCAM HD(MXF) by a simple ‘drag and drop’ procedure
SD conversion from EX footage now possible
This is a really useful function if you want to shoot HD for archive but create an SD version of your rushes because the current delivery requirement is SD
The new export function will allow you to select either MPEG IMX or DVCAM(MXF) as an option on export which means you can shoot HD and edit SD and with faster then real time export!
NB both transcode functions still require the Main Concept conversion packs
(Existing users will need V1.0.05 (free upgrade) and new customers will need to buy and download the plugin)
I’ll be creating a video tutorial in due course and of course will let you know once the link goes live at Sony
