It’s only a week until the annual migration of TV industry suppliers, resellers, manufacturers and Broadcasters converge on Las Vegas Nevada under the banner of ‘work’
This is my 4th trip to Vegas and I’m still a relative newbie ( I hear of people that have been making the pilgrimage for 15 years or more
“This year is going to be quiet” is something I’ve been hearing a lot. The Credit Crunch is forcing people to reconsider the trip and stay at home instead.
I’m pleased to say that we will be there in force with the CVP-Mitcorp team
It’s simple, we feel we have to go in order to keep pace with the changing technology marketplace and remain at the forefront of cutting edge broadcast technology. We can only give robust advice if we are out there doing it ourselves.

So Panasonic launched the AG-HPX301 last month (ahead of NAB but hasn’t shipped yet!) and there’s JVC who have started shipping the GY-HM700 and a in a late bid to enter the tapeless ring, Ikegami announce and ship the GF Cam again 3 weeks before NAB. Only Sony are remaining tight lipped but I can’t imaging an NAB without Sony releasing new camcorders so we’ll just have to wait the 2 weeks to find out.
But take the main manufacturers out of the equation and you get to the real magic of NAB - well for me anyway
Trudging the acres of floor space set over 5 halls is hard work on your feet no debate but it’s winding through all these miles of carpet that you stumble across little gems and it is finding those gems that make the show so worthwhile
With so many new converts to solid state production means a greater demand for long term archiving and digital asset management systems - as well as raid protected field backup systems, so this is an area of particular interest at this years show
I’m also looking forward to seeing the guys at Zacuto, Steve, Jens & Mandy to see what cool new Zacutoised gismos and mounts they have in store for us. Those guys seem to work relentlessly coming up with new bolt on accessories and mounting systems- a personal favourite of mine and we cameramen like stuff that ‘pimps’ our kit and looks cool. Zacuto have nailed this one.
Then there’s LED lighting - this is product area still really in it’s infancy, but the technology is advancing rapidly. Low power consumption, high output compact fixtures that allow units to be powered by AA batts in some cases- fantastic!
So if your heading to Vegas drop me a line, it’d be great to hook up and if not then i’ll be posting updates here so you won’t miss out
