If you use SxS or P2 then this will be of interest , I’m sure of it!
You may have used the ShotPut Express product from Imagine Products. This low cost software solution allows you to send your media to 3 separate backup locations simultaneously allowing you to go off and do something more interesting while it back’s up your days filming. Well this has now been re-branded ShotPut Pro with some extra features.
Introducing Proxy Mill
At the show I met Dan Montgomery who is the President of Imagine Products and he showed me Proxy Mill their brand new solution that will create and manage low resolution proxies from SxS, P2 and even Red footage!
The exciting news is that you can burn in TC and write the files in low resolution to a DVD or Blu-Ray.
Here’s a short video introduction for you:

Proxy Mill will work withP2 , DVCProHD and AVC-Intra, AVCHD, XDCAM HD, XDCAM EX and RED.
You can also make H.264 or MPEG-4 proxies make proxies from existing QT movies from any source. This means the files will play on an i-Phone or in a QT player without the need for any special codecs. So when you send a file to your producer, they will be able to easily open it.
Choose from a range presets when encoding proxies or custom select with advanced settings which include a variety of Quicktime codecs, image sizes, bit rates, and sound sample rates.
Create HD Log files and directly output log files with proxies and metadata from P2, AVC HD and XDCAM HD media.
Currently the Proxy Mill will work with Mac OS 10.5(Leopard) and QT 7.0 or higher. It is not compatible with PC or OS 10.4 but I understand from Dan that they are working on the PC version.
Finally you can write files to Blu-Ray or DVD using the Primera Bravo disc duplicator. Thus providing a low cost per unit DVD that can be used for viewing make edit decisions from.
The best news is that Proxy Mill is under $200 and the Bravo with 20 disc capacity around $1500 for DVD and $2400 for Blu-Ray.
Tell me what you think?
